To Be an Ereader, Or Not to Be an Ereader, That is the Question
- by Ryan Cullen
It seems that this Christmas ereaders (Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, etc.) will be all the rage. They are following the same technology curve that flat screen televisions, notebooks and other electronics follow – the perpetual cycle of more functionality at lower prices, making them affordable to more and more people.
Being a bit of a contrarian, I was certain from the beginning that I would never buy an ereader, even though I am an avid reader. Some would call me a “rude reader” because I read everywhere and anywhere I can get my hands on reading material. I read in bed (until the book hits me in the face when I fall asleep), while watching TV or eating dinner, and of course, yes, I read in the bathroom. Not that I’m anti-social, or at least not completely so, it’s just that I love to read. I believe that knowledge is power and there are only two good ways to attain knowledge: reading and listening.
Ereaders, How in the World Do I Pick the Best For My Needs? Let’s Take an Unbiased Look and Find Out
- by Ryan Cullen
As a way to really do an effective ereader comparison you will first want to make your wish list of only precisely what you need it to accomplish for you. I understand the first answer may be well duh I want to read a book with it.
Hello! Yes, if it were that simple it would mean you really don’t need an ereader review of any kind and almost any model is going to do, but let’s have a closer look at your personal needs and desires.
1. Do you want to take it everywhere with you? And how do you plan to carry it? If you’re a morning commuter on the bus or train let’s say or you do a quite a bit of airplane travel and you keep it in a briefcase or similar case the larger the screen the better so that you can cut down on eye strain. You will also want to be sure that it has a very good brightness adjustment feature so you can deal with all of the various light levels you will undoubtedly encounter all the time.

The Ebook readers industry is slowly evolving and every few months a newer and better ereader comes out on the market. My goal here is to introduce the three leading ereader vendors on the market. Stick to these ebook readers and you really can’t go wrong.
Surly one might be better than the other but at the end of the day it’s going to be personal preference and look and feel which is going to make the difference. With that said, you do want to stay away from the garbage products and stick to the really high quality ones. So let’s begin (attention: the listing is not by order of quality or recommendation).
The World at Your Fingertips – Travel Gadgets
- by Ryan Cullen
Laptops are just one part of the travel gadget armoury that allows us to move through the world with ease and style. For some, a laptop simply reaches IT parts other gadgets can’t match; iPhones may be a way to keep connected but aren’t suitable if you’re holidaying in Italy with the aim of working on a novel or if you’re a student partying in Ibiza by night and writing up essays by day. As long as you have a laptop charger, you know you have all you need.
Apps are an increasingly popular feature for the travel market, with various apps that can offer everything from travel guides to bespoke video cameras that come complete with a built-in USB so you can plug in and watch on your laptop. And you don’t need to pack piles of books if you’re planning on catching up with the summer’s must reads – ereaders are an increasingly popular way of carrying an entire library in your back pocket. Ereaders mean you don’t have to choose from a limited number of paperbacks and travel guides because of weight and space restrictions. The average ereader is the size and weight of a slim hardback book – but with the capacity to hold hundreds of titles.
